" I Have a Dream" short essay

Dr. Kings "I have a Dream" speech is well known throughout the world. This speech is what moved many African Americans to start the movement for equal rights for all men. What I know of the civil rights its that it gave people the chance to vote, be not guilty until proven so, and equal rights for everyone. The civil rights was nullified by many states during the racist period in history. Almost all the whites would treat blacks as inferior beings. Segregation was normal all over the country. Dr. Kings speech changed this. He inspired all African Americans to make a change and take a stand for their rights. After this speech was given African Americans were given their equal rights slowly by slowly. Even though the change didn't happen over night the encouragement led to change and over time equal rights were granted to all people no matter their color.
Dr King in his speech used rhetorical appeals in order to reach everyone. His main appeal was religion. He used terms like, "when all of God's children" or " Thank God Almighty". Dr. King also appealed to government laws. He mentions the Emancipation Proclamation, the Constitution, the Declaration of Independence, and the Civil Rights to get to his point. For example when he was talking about the promise america had failed to keep he mentions the Declaration where it talks about "Life, Liberty, and puruit of Happiness." These rhethorical appeals allowed him to communicate with everyone.
